The story takes place in a fictional world of Demons and Angels. The two sides have been warring off and on for centuries. 50 years of uneasy peace has come to an abrupt halt after diplomatic talks end with an Act of War committed by the Angels.
"Shy Violet never expected black magic to be real. Yes, she loves horror and the paranormal – the scarier, the better! And she’s even started her own Occult Club, though that just creeps her classmates out. But when a popular male student is cursed for real, even Violet doesn’t know what to do.
Now that Prince Not-So-Charming has transformed into a very strange ‘beast,’ it’ll take much more than a kiss to break the spell. Help Violet stop the curse, break out of her shell...and maybe even find new love (or at least new members for the Occult Club)."
Hocus Pocus Prince is an upcoming visual novel where the boys are cursed into "beasts." The game will be available on both PC and mobile.
You've left your home and everything you've ever known behind to start anew in the city. Will you be able to escape your past and start fresh or will your past continue to haunt you?
City Lights [CE-5] explores unexplained circumstances and events surrounding a group of people living at a communal complex in the city.

+ the sprites are quite pretty
+ fascinating, well-written story
Dislikes:
- lack of control over the game's... er, controls
- something about the background art feels out of place
City Lights, formerly known as CE-5 (and actually, this is what's written on the short game I just played), is a game made for the TyranoJam 2015. It's pretty short, just around 30 min. long, with only three endings.
Now, before you say anything, I know what you're thinking.
It's Pokemon, yes, I know! Pokemon! *squeals and does a little happy dance*
So, as some of you may know, I'm a huge Pokemon fan, and I've been a fan of that franchise for more than a decade... and a half. Hahaha, I practically grew up watching Pokemon, collecting Pokemon cards, and of course, playing the games. I couldn't be prouder to say that I own at least one game in every single generation of the Pokemon games, (Except XY, as I am still waiting for Z, hahaha) from the Gameboy to the Nintendo 3DS. And even until now, as a broke (usually, hahaha) young college student, I make sure that I always have spare money for Pokemon releases. Gotta catch 'em all! (Oh, wow, if you know me in real life, well... please don't tell anyone else about my hidden nerdy side! Hahaha, kidding.)
That said, I have to warn you guys that I might be a little biased about this game here, because... hey, it's Pokemon! <3 And a Pokemon SCHOOL, too, no less. Ahhh, just thinking about it sends the fan girl in me squealing her lungs out~
Ahem. Anyway, I've already talked too much. Let's get on with the review, shall we?
Before I get into another fangirl spiel, let me just get this out: Pokemon Academy Life is just a fan game, and the developers are in no way connected to Pokemon, Game Freak, or Nintendo whatsoever. As said in the project's development thread on LemmaSoft Forums, it's a fan "game made by a fan for [existing] fans." It's not a legit Pokemon game or anything. That said, most of the in-game assets (including the logo, music, font) were taken directly from the Pokemon franchise, so a little part of me is worried that Nintendo might shut this project down. I sure hope not, though, as I'm sure the concept of a visual novel where you can play as a student in a Pokemon Academy is just too amazing for Pokemon fans. <3

Oh my gosh, just look at the-- the backgrounds are just placeholders; don't worry about it! |
THE STORY
To celebrate with one final out-of-town trip before their last semester in the university, a 20-year-old graduating student and her friends decide to go hiking up a popular mountain. However, along the way, a minor landslide occurs, knocking her unconscious. When she wakes up, she finds herself alone in a dark and scary forest, with a broken cellphone and an injured leg. Looking for shelter, she finds a strange and haunted-looking mansion looming up ahead. Will she find comfort within the four ancient walls of the mansion, or will she discover something far more sinister than she had ever known?
THE CHARACTERS
Nameable Protagonist
A 20-year-old literature student at the university. She has a lot of confidence in herself, which can be mistaken for plain conceit by some. She can be quite superstitious too, never disregarding the signs and omens that she sees-- or sometimes, seems to see. Waking up in the middle of the forest with a broken phone and an equally broken leg may not have gotten the worst out of her, but will three mysterious boys in an equally mysterious mansion do?
VIKTOR
The first of the three mysterious brothers. Even though he’s only 23 years old, Viktor has made it his responsibility to take care of his two “baby” brothers. He’s very nice and always has a warm smile on his face. Viktor can be sort of a jokester and a prankster at times, which can be strange in contrast to his usually serious and calm demeanor.
VONN
Vonn is the second of the "mysterious" brothers, being around 22 years of age. He tends to be a grump about everything, and often clashes with his brothers because of this. It's hard to get to know him because he usually shuts people down even before they could say a single word. He’s rarely a talkative person, but when he does talk, it can be pretty hard to shut him up.
VERN
At 19 years old, Vern is the youngest of the brothers. He's actually rather friendly, although he may come across as antisocial at first. Despite his quiet personality, like his oldest brother, he likes jokes and funny punch lines. A lot. Behind his innocent smile and aura, though, the youngest brother could be hiding something deeper, and our protagonist is out to discover just what that is.

THE WEBSITES
For some of you who might have visited this blog in this past... perhaps you're aware that I normally don't play demos, unless the game really catches my eye or somebody asks me a favor. That's not because I hate demos, or anything. The truth is, when I play visual novels, I like completing the whole thing in one sitting, and demos just usually end in cliffhangers. Or, in a worst-case scenario, playing one makes me so excited for a completed game that might never see the light of the day. (Oh, please, no.) However, I saw this little baby on LSF last night, and I just couldn't wait to try it out! <3
Les Contes Magiques ~ Marie Lévesque ~ is an upcoming fantasy otome game.
"You play as Marie Lévesque, a 2nd-year student at the prestigious Institut de Sorcellerie. Since the beginning of civilization, this institute was built as one of many other guardian towers, meant to both train and employ defenders.
At first, Marie found her experience there to be rather easy-going. However, something ominous appears over the horizon. A female student goes missing and then is found dead... and subsequently, others fall to the same horrifying fate. What exactly is going on here?"
Who is Mike?
Now, THAT is the big question.
And to be honest, in the end, I still don't know exactly the answer to the main question in this VN. Who IS Mike?

It's the first day of October, and... oh my, look how fast time has flown! This semester ends in two months and a half... woooo~
I have to admit, I haven't played any visual novels in almost two months now, but that's because things have been fairly busy on the personal (academic) side of my life. I do love love love VNs, but as a university student, my studies play a much bigger role in my life right now, so I do hope you guys can understand. (I know you do; you guys are awesome!) Still, this doesn't mean that I haven't been working (sometimes) on VN projects... (Ooooh, don't you guys just love Halloween? *wink*)
But let's not spoil that one for now. Hahaha. Actually, I'm just here to make an announcement. :)
IaMe Productions is announcing a new visual novel project, Dating Any New Guy Embodies Risk, or DANGER! for short. It's a slice-of-life fantasy otome game.

Backgrounds by the really amazing Van (fateline-alpha)! |
Here's the Tumblr blog for further details regarding this project. :) Also, feel free to follow the blog to stay updated with progress announcements in the future!
P.S. Just a segue... there's going to be another announcement at the end of this month, and it's not a visual novel project announcement. (Hint: It has something to do with my visual novel projects, as well.) *wink*wink* Let's all hope for the best, shall we? <3
